PSA President elected minorty leader of the Tobago House of Assembly

PSA President was recently elected as minority leader of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) after recent election resulted in Duke's party winning two seats. The elections of Jan 23rd, 2017 saw Mr. Duke's party the PDP reducing the PNM's majority by two

The People's National Movement (PNM) retained control of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) but with a reduced majority with ten(10) seats while the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) won two (2) seats.

The PNM's complete dominance in the THA was broken by the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) led by PSA President Watson Duke. During the previous term of the Assembly, the PNM won all 12 seats. This was the first time the PDP ran as a party in local Tobago elections.The PDP won two of the seats available, these being Roxborough and Speyside.

President Duke, a Tobagonian by birth will now function as the Minority Leader of the THA. According to one daily paper, this win gives 'legitimacy to his bold and outrageous style of leadership'. President Duke has long being an advocate of addressing crime, healthcare and job security for local Tobagonians and ensuring the intent of the governance of THA benefits his fellowman.
